Janett Liriano (Martinez) - Chief Executive Officer @ Loomia

December 10, 2017

JANETT'S BIO

Janett is a maker and a project manager with a passion for user experience. Her role is to optimize and scale LOOMIA's suite of patented core technologies for large scale manufacturing. Day to day, she is responsible for identifying and securing key supply chain partners and collecting customer requirements around interface, customer experience, manufacturing, and logistics.

Janett believes that integrity in business relationships can be combined with precisely-engineered materials science to reinvent the apparel supply-chain and enable smarter garments.

WITH GROUPS CREATING PROGRAMS TO ENCOURAGE FEMALES TO CONSIDER STEM, WHAT IS THE BIGGEST BARRIER TO ENTRY THAT IS STILL PREVALENT TODAY?

I would say a lack of access to engaged mentors, proactive programs at the primary and middle school level to create interest early, and an isolation of access to lower income folks to connected individuals in the field.

It isn't enough to identify a problem and speak to it, those of us with resources in the space need to be aggressive about creating truly inclusive internship and mentorship programs for young diverse women and girls, and on the education and policy side, engage communities beyond Silicon Valley and prestigious schools and offer resources there.

WHAT OR WHO INSPIRES YOU?

I am inspired by my colleagues, Maddy Maxey, (Founder, LOOMIA) Ezgi Ucar (Director of Product Development, LOOMIA) who diligently and creatively solve incredible technical challenges with truly graceful and enchanting outcomes. Their stories and backgrounds are truly fascinating. Beyond our amazing team, Jessica Matthews of Uncharted Play is a purpose driven CEO dedicated to bringing power and independence through energy. I am inspired by my four incredible sisters and my mother as well who lead fearlessly in every aspect of their lives.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT/ACCOMPLISHMENT?

I hope my proudest moments remain ahead of me! Most recently, a great honor that I had was speaking at the Department of Education for the White House African American Summit for STEAM. I was able to share my story with students and educators on the importance of STEAM, give advice to young future game changers, and share how unconventional paths can sometimes be your greatest asset. I believe it's critically important for women in tech who are pioneering and moving forward to always look back, extend a hand and ensure they are building steps for others to follow.
